Financial Concepts Chartered Independent Financial Planners are a complete one-stop financial services solution. Although our offices are based in Cumbria, we have clients all over the UK.

Our status as Independent Financial Planners provides us with access to an enormous range of financial plans and investments from any regulated UK financial services supplier. Following our in-depth research, we will compile recommendations for our clients, based on their risk profile and the timescales they are comfortable with. This allows us to make recommendations based upon the solution that we feel will best meet their needs and expectations.

Darren Turnbull – Director

Darren has worked in Banking and Financial Services for the past 25 years firstly with the RBS and then Natwest. Darren became a Director of Financial Concepts in 2005.

Darren is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) which is as a result of completing the recognised Global Financial Planning Qualification. Darren provides advice in all aspects of Financial Planning specialising in Equity Release and mortgages.

Tony Phillipson – Director

Tony started in Financial Services with the Prudential in 1983. He became an Independent Financial Adviser in 1993, working in the North East.

Following a move to Cumbria in 1999 he launched Financial Concepts (previously Tiffens Independent Financial Services) in 2000. He has always been client focused and has concentrated on building long term relationships, still dealing with clients he met in the early days with the Prudential.

Nigel Shackleton – Director

Nigel started in Financial Services as an adviser with Lloyds TSB and then NatWest. He then joined Lowes Financial Planning, a company based in NE England, as a Technical Manager. Nigel then spent 8 years as a Broker Consultant with Legal & General.

Nigel joined Financial Concepts in 2005 as its Technical Director

Andrew Pease – Chartered Financial Planner

Andrew has been working in Financial Services for 36 years and his career has seen him being employed as a Financial Planner with Standard Life and with several Chartered Accountancy Practices across the country including the City of London.

Andrew joined Financial Concepts in 2013 and specialises in Pension planning, Pensions and Divorce, Estate and Personal Tax planning.

Adrian Leslie – Independent Financial Planner

Adrian has been working in Financial Services for 29 years and has been an Independent Financial Planner for 20 years. Starting his Financial Services career with Axa in Bristol he was employed with Cooperative Bank Independent Financial Advisers for 15 years and with Ashcourt Rowan Financial Planning (IFA) for 5 years. Adrian joined Financial Concepts in 2015.

Steve Goswell – Paraplanner

Steve has over 20 years of experience in the Financial Services industry. He started working within the pensions department of a large life office before moving into the IFA market, where he ended up managing a team of paraplanners. After working for several years within the employee benefits market, he returned to the IFA market after relocating to Cumbria, where he worked for an accountancy practice, before moving to Financial Concepts as a Paraplanner in October 2015. Steve is married to Fiona and they live in Penrith.

Alison Dixon – Mortgage Specialist

Alison has been arranging mortgages for clients for well over 30 years and has a wealth of knowledge and experience of both the mortgage and property markets.She prides herself on taking clients step by step through the house buying process, keeping things as simple and as stress free as possible.

Offering an independent mortgage service, Alison has the whole mortgage market to advise from and can guarantee clients the best possible mortgage tailored to their individual needs.

Sophie Earl

Sophie Earl – Financial Administrator

Sophie has been with Financial Concepts since April 2017 as a Financial Administrator and works in our Carlisle office providing administrative support for our clients. She is currently studying towards a Diploma in Business Administration.

Lindsay Brayton – Office Manager

Lindsay has lived and worked in Carlisle all her life and after leaving college in 1992, was employed at Barclays Bank Plc for 12 years starting as a Cashier and working her way up to Customer Services Supervisor. She joined Financial Concepts (then – Tiffens Independent Financial Services) in March 2004 starting as an administrator and is now Office Manager incorporating the accounts and auto-enrolment department

Adele Harrison – Financial Administrator

Adele began working for Financial Concepts in September 2018. She has recently gained a Level 3 Award in Financial Administration, Level 3 Certificate in Regulated Financial Services Operations and is currently working towards a Level 4 Certificate in Paraplanning. Adele enjoys spending time with her family, socialising and fishing.
